This is one of those rare movies that is visceral in its handling of the source. Andy Muschietti does an exceptional job of balancing the horror elements mingled with the comedic aspects of the movie. IT isn’t your typical kind of horror movie, filled with false jump scares, but one that relies on building the atmosphere through tension. It is also commendable that all the scary scenes take place during daytime and not during the cliched night sequences that we see in almost all the movies of this genre.
